  1. We met Catherine before when she came in to represent the Tudors but this time she was representing the Egyptians. To start off, she brought in a huge pyramid. Later on she opened up the pyramid and we learned a new fact. The fact is now there is nothing at all in the real pyramids in Egypt. A long time ago in Egypt there lived Egyptians. We looked at some different objects that Egyptians would have had. I must say I never ever saw a comb like that in my life. It was a different shape to the comb I use at home and had an animal carved on it. There were so many different objects I saw. My partner was Seb and we had to guess what we were given. We got a type of object that looked like a necklace but we were close but wrong. It was basically like a necklace that you wore around your waist area. Kobi had the necklace that went around your neck and attached to our object. A bit later my class presented their objects and there were some weird ones too. One of the weird ones was a wooden doll because it had a huge face and small body. Finally we had pictures with our objects and partners. I want to say thank you to Catherine for coming to our School

  2. I really liked it when Catherine came and showed us about the Egyptians. I really liked it when she showed us the objects. My favourite object was the basket. I thought it was a pet but really it was something to protect women in the afterlife.Anyway I really enjoyed her presentation.

  3. I enjoyed the Egyptian workshop because a lady came in to talk to us. Catherine had a pyramid and she opened it and there was lots of necklaces and charms. We got a piece of paper and there was facts about the artifact. My artifact was a necklace. Kobi and I read the facts about the necklace, it was worn by women and men and if they had lots of gold they could prove to the gods that they were rich and could go to heaven.

  4. On Thursday a lady called Cath came to talk to us about the Egyptians! She brought a model of a tomb which had Egyptian treasure (not real). The only thing that was missing was the mummified body. I worked with Alex P and our object was a scarab beetle made of clay and some made of wood with some Egyptian writing on the back(or dung beetle). The scarab beetle was a lucky charm or a symbol for the afterlife. There were also lots of other objects like small wooden toys. Did you Know Tutankhamun had a club Foot and most of the Egyptians lived round the river nile? I enjoyed when Cath came.

  5. I enjoyed Cath coming in. She taught us about ancient Egypt artifacts. We had to work out who the pyramid belonged to…was it a boy, a girl, a man or a woman? We got something called a manet to study. It was like a necklace but for your back and there was a necklace attached to the manet to go in front as well.
Everyone got given an item and we all worked out that it belonged to a woman.
I hope Cath will come in again because it was really interesting and fun!

  6. I had the wooden toys as the object. Yaz and I talked about it to the class. I did not know the Egyptians found playing important .
There were 2 pieces to the toys, one looked like a woman and the other looked like a snake. My favourite object was the jars that Alex C and Luca had. There is normally 4 jars and 4 pictures of people, all blue. Katherine showed the class all the objects she had while talking about it. There were traps too. I saw one trap in the box she was using . The Egyptians had to be very careful so that they don’t fall into a trap.
I found it all very interesting to learn about the Egyptians and their way of living.

  7. I had a lot of fun when Catherine came. We all got to hold a a replica of an Egyptian antiquity.I had the Canopic jars. I found out that the lids were gods to protect the organs. The organs put in the Canopic jars were:the liver, lungs, intestines and stomach. This was done to protect them. The heart was bandaged and left in body. the brain was taken out of the nostrils and thrown away. They weighed the heart to see if you’ve been good. If it was heavy they took the bad out.I was partnered with Luca. After I examined my object ,I read piece of paper that had more information on it and told the class about it and filled a chart.

    THANK YOU CATH

  8. Recently, we have been learning about the Egyptians and how they believe so much in the afterlife. A lady called Catherine came to our school to hold a workshop. I think the Egyptian workshop was amazing because Catherine explained about all of the traps in the pyramid and came around with objects that the Egyptians would have used in those days. Jack and I received a necklace both men and woman wore in the Egyptian times. They believed so much in the afterlife that when somebody died they would gather all of there riches and put it beside them for the gods.
In conclusion, I think the Egyptians have a very rich culture and would some day like to visit there.

  9. The Egyptian workshop was great. First the person that had come to work with us got a cardboard pyramid and opened it up. Inside there was a hair comb, a make-up knife, a hair curler and a dung beetle luck charm as well as lots of other things. Then she gave us a replica object, one between two, and we had to guess what it was. Some people got it wrong and some were right. Then we filled in a chart on the board. We told the class what we had and what they were for. We really learnt a lot.

  10. On Thursday we had a workshop where Katherine came to teach us about the Ancient Egyptians. She gave us some objects,my object was a comb and it was for men and women but not for boys or girls. Unfortunately I had to go for my flute lesson so I missed most of the workshop but I was able to read my friends’ blogs to find out what I missed.

  11. I really enjoyed the Egyptian workshop we had on Thursday. The museum specialist showed us some interesting models, I held a make-up knife (used to put on make-up) decorated with a picture of a goat. There were also lots more fantastic models including: a comb, a jar and some old toys. After we had looked at the models, the specialist explained how they were used and who they were for. Overall I found the visit very enjoyable.

  12. I really liked the Egyptian workshop because you never know what’s what until you discover it and that’s what we did and it was naturally fun so I give it a thumbs up.

  13. The Egyptian workshop was great. Even though I was at my music lesson I still saw a lot of it. At the very beginning of it we all got a replica of something that the Egyptians would have used. I got a canopic jar it was used to protect organs. It has four lids to put on one at a time. Another thing that someone got was a wooden doll and toy it was used for entertainment. The canopic jar was used by boys, girls, women and men. The wooden doll and toy was only used by girls and women.

  14. Egyptian Workshop
On Thursday Catherine came to see us again. This time she talked about the ancient Egyptians and showed us a model of a pyramid. She asked us who we thought was buried inside. It turned out to be the burial place of a woman. The side of the pyramid lifted off and inside was a sarcophagus and a manet, a necklace and a scarab beetle. Also there was an Anubis which is a statue of a God who helps takes the person to the afterlife. The mummy had their organs removed and put in canopic jars. The brain was removed by putting sticks up the mummy’s nostrils!!!
I enjoyed the workshop very much.

  15. I really liked the Egyptian workshop with Catherine.

She made a pyramid out of card and brought replicas of things that were buried with the Kings and Queens of Egypt such as models of servants, scarab beetle, necklaces.

Max Rinder and I showed the rest of the class the models of the servants. They had hieroglyphics written on their bodies.
Then we got a sheet of paper showing pictures of things that were buried in the tombs. Most boys said that a women was in the tomb and we were correct.

  16. We learned many interesting facts about the Egyptians at the workshop. It was really strange to see replica objects used in everyday life in ancient Egypt. We were shown a make-up knife, used to apply make-up. It had a handle and a flat surface to spread make-up on the face and a pointy end to draw lines around the eyes. We also saw a hair curler, a comb and small wooden coffins that people kept to remember their loved ones. My favourite object was a canonic jar where Egyptians kept dried-up organs of their loved ones. They made ‘mummies’ of their dead loved ones, because they didn’t want their bodies to rot. The organs were removed and place in the canopic jars and the body was dried out and wrapped in bandages before being placed in wooden coffin.

  17. On Thursday Catherine from the Epping Forest Museum visited us. Catherine brought in a cardboard pyramid tomb with Egyptian items inside. For example there were amulets, wooden dolls and toys, ushabti, (servants for the dead- in this tomb there were 3 servants) a comb, a hair curler, a make up knife, a scarab bettle (considered to be lucky) ,canopic jars, a Bastet and Anubis. I was given the Bastet. At first I thought it was the dead person’s favourite pet as it looked like a cat, but then the information sheet said it was Bastet. Bastet was the goddess of warfare to protect the woman in the afterlife. Dylan Max and I then had to stand up and explain what it was to the class. I enjoyed seeing all the artefacts in the pyramid and knowing what they were as it reminded me of my visit to the British Museum early January. I was sad not to see a mini mummy body too in the tomb as I enjoyed reading about the embalming process in the museum and learned lots of long Egyptian words there.

  18. I really enjoyed when Catherine came in to talk about the Egyptians. I also liked when Arkin and I were archaeologists. We were investigating a servant model that Egyptians believed would come to life. This would be in the after life. They would act as servants in the after life. Anybody could have them boys, girls, women or men . The servant models were called ushbatis . I thought it was really fun with Catherine and hope to see her again.

  19. This is my review of the Ancient Egyptian workshop I attended on Friday 13th January. The aim of the workshop was to study artefacts inside the pyramid and find out who would have been buried in the pyramid.

The coordinator of the workshop was a lady from a museum. She showed us a replica of a pyramid and inside it was replicas of artefacts. She asked us to divide into pairs, handed the artefacts out to pairs and asked us to try to figure out what it was and who would have used it. Angelo and I tried to figure out what our artefact might have been. But at the end we found out it was a hair curler and it belongs to a lady. In the end, every pair talked about their artefact.

I learnt that people from Ancient Egypt used to put their possessions in their pyramid. I found the workshop was very exciting and helpful in understanding about Ancient Egypt.

  20. I enjoyed the Egyptian workshop. My favourite gods are Anubis and Ra I like the wooden toys and the jackal I also like the pyramid that Cath made it was extremely fun playing with the wooden toys, I liked the beetles because I liked what they represented. The Egyptian workshop was really helpful to me because I learnt a lot more than I did before. It was a very gruesome how they stuffed organs into jars.
