This week…

Maths:  This week my maths set are looking at division methods.  We will be looking at speeding up mental methods of division and looking at written methods too.  This will lead on to some division word problems.

In mental maths the boys asked me about the rhyme for remembering how many days were in each month.  Here it is:

English: We are continuing to use Fairy Tales as a stimulus this week and the boys will be looking at writing letters of advice to a character.  In grammar this week we are looking at paragraphs.

Weekend homework

Remember to choose one and think of both sides to the argument.

  • The King must be wealthy to rule a Kingdom.
  • Witches should punish people who are not kind.
  • If parents can’t afford to feed their children they should give them away.
  • Cinderella should have stood up to her sisters.

This week…

Maths:

My maths set have been working on fractions.  We are looking at what fractions actually are, equivalent fractions as well as looking at calculating fractions of amounts.

Literacy:

We are continuing to look at FAIRY TALES this week.  The boys are very keen to write their own alternative story so we are using Hansel and Gretal as a stimulus but in our stories it is Hansel and Gretal who are the villains! Spellings this week will be looking at doubling the final consonant when adding the suffix ‘ing’ ‘er’ and ‘ed’.

 

Monday homework

Children to choose one of the following:

1.Create a fairy tale character/ draw an existing one for a display and write what qualities they have that make them good for this genre.

2.Choose a page of a favourite fairy tale to write out in best for display thinking of how traditional books present them.

3. Create a front cover/illustrated page for a fairy tale book for display.

Remembrance homework

Due Wednesday.

English:

We are beginning our unit on FAIRY TALES this week and the boys will be looking at the features of this genre as a mind map exercise.  In SPAG work we are looking at apostrophes for possession.
