This week…

English:  we are continuing to look at our class reader this week and the theme for the week will be exploring bullying.  We will be looking at the perspective of the bully and what might be causing the behaviour.  There are strong links here to PSHEE.  In grammar lessons we are continuing to look at alternative ways to effectively start sentences.

The homework this evening is a cross curricular homework.  The boys have been asked to complete a diary entry writing as an Egyptian farmer.  They will need to explain the 3 seasons and what happens during each.  The PowerPoint that we have used in class is attached below to help:

Maths:  We are moving on to looking at position and coordinates this week.  Some of the boys may even get on to looking at coordinates in the 4 quadrants.  http://www.mathplayground.com/locate_aliens.html

Lots of the boys found that the topic they needed to revise from mental maths this week was multiplication and division.  It’s easy to forget the facts so here are a few games that can be played to help support this:

This week…

English:  we will be writing a descriptive piece of work this week so all of the grammar and class work will help to support this.  We will focus on identifying and choosing nouns, adjectives, verbs and adverbs as well as looking at how to vary the way in which we start our sentences to avoid repetition.

Maths:  We are continuing to work on measures this week and the boys will be using their knowledge in a practical setting with some cookery.  Our focus this week will be reading a range of scales.  Homework for maths won’t be due in until Monday to allow for both groups to have completed the cooking.

Count the wildlife that’s counting on you!

Below is a link to the RSPB webpage.  From here you can click on the ‘MENU’ tab and it will allow you to look through the identification sheets and look at some other really interesting information.

Below is a link to the form for the Big Garden Birdwatch which takes place next weekend.  Start to familiarise yourself with the different species of birds this weekend!  Maybe you could do some independent learning on the birds.

English:  We are looking at the theme of ‘friendship’ this week and the boys will be creating an advert for a friend aimed at the main character of our class reader as well as offering him some advice in the form of a letter.
