This weekend

Remember you have geography homework this weekend. Each line is a set of instructions.

You also have spellings to learn too – your test will be next Friday.

Have a good weekend!

Here is a great link to help you learn your spellings:

Maths link

Below is the link that I used in my maths lesson today. Anyone can have a go but remember to use the inverse to work out the numbers for each brick and to start in a logical position!

Seb’s prank

I was at my cousin’s house and I found a huge spider. Then I got thinking. So I got the huge spider and put it in her dressing gown. When she was cold she put her dressing gown on and then the spider started to climb up her arm and she chucked the dressing gown across the room. Everybody was laughing. Sassy was laughing for a long time.

This week…

Literacy:  We are continuing to work with our class reader ‘Bill’s New Frock’ and this week we are looking at some comprehension questions relating to each chapter where the focus will be writing answers in complete sentences and also inference and deduction skills.  Later in the week we are working on synonyms for how some of the characters are feeling and so it will be great to try to expand vocabulary at home wherever possible.  We will also be looking at commas so keep writing those lists boys!

Numeracy: My maths group will be working on inverse operations for both addition and subtraction, multiplication and division.  There will be 2 main objectives: firstly to use the inverse operation to check a calculation and secondly to find a ‘missing number’.  A good game to play at home is ‘I’m thinking of a number’ whereby the thinker then does something to that number (adds/subtracts/multiplies/divides) and the guesser has to do the inverse to discover what the original number was.  A great game for a traffic jam!  Maths homework tonight: Schofield and Sims (30 mins) due in Wednesday.

Homework

Thinking about the mischief and mayhem in all of Roald Dahl’s books, write about a prank you have played or one that you have heard of.  You could talk to a family member and find out what they got up to when they were younger!  You need to e-mail this homework as it will be going on the blog.

Link from my maths lesson today:

http://www.mathsframe.co.uk/en/resources/resource/60/itp_moving_digits

Remember to see what happens to the digits when you multiply and divide by 10 or 100.  You cannot simply ‘add zeros’!  The digits have to move…

Jay’s story

Jack and the bean talk

Once there was a boy named Jack Dilerts. His friends Jay and Matty were on e-mail and he came on his account. He and his friends were talking about a new toy called ‘The Rex Bean 5000’ and the competition to get one. You had to find a bean in the mall and it was happening tomorrow.  Then they ran to the mall and got in the queue and started the hunt before everyone. One hour had gone and everyone else started the hunt.  Suddenly they saw a glow and they shoved a teddy out of the way.  There it was! The magic bean!  They ran down the stairs and the man was there.  They said, “We found it!”

They got a ‘Rex Bean 5000’ each and they all went Jack’s house and looked the bean and a bean came out.  Now there were two and then it disappeared and they played and lived happily ever after.

The end

Finishing History

Today we looked at where Egypt is and the children were given a map of the world and needed to label the following (using an atlas):

  • Pacific Ocean
  • Atlantic Ocean
  • Indian Ocean

They also needed to colour:

  • Egypt in yellow
  • The rest of Africa in red
  • UK in green

They then had to draw a key to show what the colours meant.

I have asked anyone did not finish this in class to finish this at home tonight.
