This week…

Maths:  We are continuing to look at formal written methods for subtraction this week moving on to looking at calculations where there is a zero in the tens/hundreds column.  The game below will help increase the speed of number bond calculations.

English: We are working on play scripts this week and using chapter 12 of Danny to change the narrative text into a play script.  Spelling will be tested on Thursday this week because of the class trip on Wednesday.

Did you know…?

Here is your chance to share you weird and wonderful facts that you are learning from the amazing books you are choosing.  Here is my fact that I learned in the book fair yesterday:

Did you know that Roald Dahl was once a champion boxer?

This week…

English:  the boys will be getting creative this week and thinking up their own humane methods for catching pheasants (Danny chapters 5&6).  The genre being studied is INSTRUCTIONS and the boys will be drawing on their own experience of instructions for help.

Maths:  we are looking at subtraction this week.  We begin with mental methods of ‘finding the difference’  and look at counting on as a method.  Word problems then follow and if we have time we will be looking at the written methods for subtraction (column subtraction).

Sustainability Logo Competition:

These 3 pictures all represent what sustainability means to someone. What does it mean to you?  Can you design a logo that shows what Sustainability means to the boys at LHS?  If it complements the LEO logo too that’s even better as Sustainability and LEO work hand in hand.

Think carefully about the work that we have been doing as part of our RE lessons on signs and symbols.

Here is the original competition poster:

Stories

Today 4M were so excited to share their own stories about experiences that they have had.  Some are scary, some are exciting, some are amusing and some are quite bizarre…!  If you would like to share a story that you have experienced or heard then you are welcome to write it here.  Try to think about how Roald Dahl made his story of Mrs Pratchett and ‘The Great Mouse Plot’ and ‘Mrs Pratchett’s Revenge’ so exciting to read.

This week

Maths: We are looking at mental methods for adding and subtracting 2 digit numbers and 3 digit numbers.  The focus will be methods that increase the speed of calculations to support mental maths.

Literacy: Our grammar focus is verb and adverbs but we will also be looking at abstract nouns too in our creative writing.  They boys will be writing for their own experiences using our class reader as a stimulus.

We had some amazing character descriptions written last week which I thoroughly enjoyed reading along with these two.  We are working on making sure that all our sentences have basic capital letters and full stops now!
