This week…
Maths:
We continue our topic on fractions this week and we are looking at equivalent fractions using a fractions wall (various apps are available for this) and also looking at fractions of amounts (starting with a visual representation and then moving to the calculations only).

English:
We will be looking at informal letters this week and the boys will be writing a letter to the main character in our class reader to offer advice on how to deal with his friendship issues. There are links here to PSHE too. In grammar we are identifying verbs and using exclamation marks appropriately. Spellings issued on Friday will look at ‘ough’ words.
Looking ahead to WORLD BOOK DAY in March, we are starting to collect shoe boxes for an activity we would like to do so if you have any at home that we could have we would be very grateful.

Interesting facts about water.
Did you know that 97% of the Earth’s water is contained in the oceans?
Maths game (fractions)
This is the link to the game we looked at in class today for those boys who wanted to try it at home. I’ve also put a copy of the fractions wall up to help you.

This week…
Maths: My group are looking at fractions this week. This is a huge topic so we will be looking at what fractions are and how they can be represented and fractions of amounts. Brushing up on timetables and divisions will really help here. The game below may help!

Literacy: We will be continuing work surrounding our new class reader. The boys will be exploring some of the themes in the book such as ‘heroes’ and ‘friendship’. As part of their homework they will be asked to read some of the chapters in the book but it it really important that they do not read ahead! Our spellings work this week will be looking at the suffix ‘ful’ and the boys will be given these spellings as usual on Friday.
In science today we looked at using the sense of touch as a way to measure temperature and the boys may come home and test parents on their knowledge of thermal conductivity and try to demonstrate their learning using ice cubes!
