This week…

English:  We are using our class reader to look at non chronological reports this week.  The subject for our reports will be ‘crocodiles’ and the boys will be using their weekend homework to support this.  Our grammar focus for this week is apostrophes.

Maths:  We are having a revision week looking back at the previous topics covered so far.  We are beginning with written methods for the 4 operations then will move on to looking at inverse operations and then a quick recap of finding fractions of amounts.

This week…

Maths: This week we are looking at nets of 3D shapes.  This incorporates previous knowledge of 2D and 3D shapes.

English: This week we will be looking at how to takes notes effectively.  We will be using a non fiction text for this and they will use the skills later in the week when they are interviewing a person playing the role of one of the characters in our class reader.  In spellings this week we will be looking at more homophones.

BBC 500 Word Competition

Listen to some of last year’s winning stories by clicking on the link below:

http://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/articles/KNWsKPrg7stQ54tTbcf6P7/500-words-the-stories

Choose your favourite one and analyse it to work out what qualities it has to be a winning story. Think about:

  • plot
  • characterisation
  • setting
  • descriptive techniques
  • language
  • originality

Write your analysis of the story, together with your ideas on how it might help you with your own story writing, in your Homework Books (NOT on the Blog) and hand in on Monday.
