My Review Of St Albans Abbey Trip

On Friday the 7th November I went to St Albans Abbey with my year.  St Albans Abbey is a Church of England cathedral church in St Albans, England.  It was an overcast day (a gloomy day) but everyone was excited on the bus. When we got there a lady who worked there welcomed us into the abbey. First of all we did something called the Christmas trail. This involved talking about The Holy Spirit, Jesus, God, The Angels, The Dove, Joseph and Mary.

Then we dressed up as Monks and did a little drama act. Then we learnt all about Alban who was the priest of the abbey. He was beheaded by the Romans because he decided to be a Christian and the person who beheaded him got a punishment by God and the punishment was that his eyeballs fell out! My favourite part of the trip was learning about Alban when he got beheaded because it was gory. I would rate the trip **/*****(two out of five) because some bits were less interesting than others.

Miss Martin says: You remembered plenty of the interesting details here and wrote a very honest review. 🙂

This week…

Maths:  My group are working on reading and plotting coordinates this week.  We will also be linking this to our previous work on 2D shape and the boys will be plotting coordinates on grids and then labeling the shape with the correct name.  The challenging part to this week is the actual drawing of grids accurately with both axes on the lines and labeled correctly too.

Literacy:  This week we are preparing to write our own fairy tale from an alternative point of view.  In grammar we are looking at extending our knowledge of homophones and using these correctly in sentences.

This week…

Maths:  My maths group will be looking at identifying and classifying a range of 2D and 3D shapes according to their properties.  A huge amount of vocabulary accompanies this topic and for this reason the spellings that were given out on Friday relate to this topic.  It is really important that children learn the spellings and the meanings of the words (which we will also be covering each day in class).

Literacy:  Our comprehension work this week links into Remembrance Day and the children will explore articles and poems related to this theme.  We will also be looking at homophones this week and this will also be the topic for our spellings this week.  In creative writing we are looking at Fairy Tales and alternative points of view.
