Easter poetry

Year 4 write some fantastic Easter poems today and shared them in class. It would be lovely to have them put on the blog for everyone to read or maybe you could write another one. Please leave your poem as a comment below.

This week…

Literacy: We are concluding our unit on poetry this week and have looked at some Haiku poems today. The boys will get to put their creative hats on and write some Easter poetry using their homework from the weekend and their learning from the whole poetry unit.

Maths: We are concluding the term with some work on nets this week. We will be revising the 2D and 3D shape names as well as the vocabulary associated with shape (vertices, edges, faces etc).

This week…

Literacy:  We are getting creative with poetry this week.  Out theme is ‘jungle poems’ and the boys will be looking at imagery, stanzas and effective language.  It would be lovely to see some new work for the independent wall which could be inspired from the poems we are looking at this week!

Numeracy: We have a pretty short week this week but we will be working on 2-D shape which includes a huge amount of mathematical language for the boys to remember.  Maybe one of the boys could do a shape poster or shape language poster for the independent learning wall?!

Don’t forget, BOUNCE is this Thursday.

This week…

Literacy:  We are looking at poetry this week.  We have begun by looking at the various types of poems and the features of poetry.  The boys will be writing some of their own poems this week too based around the theme of animals.

Perhaps you would like to try to write a poem of your own to be shared on here boys!

Maths:  As we only had a short week last week, we are continuing our work on area which will extend into compound shapes made of different rectangles and also triangles.  The 2nd half of the week will be looking at properties of shape where there is a lot of language to remember.

This week…

Literacy:  We are having a cross curricular week with literacy and out Aztec project this week.  Today we looked at what the Aztecs brought us and our work was in the context of a letter to the Aztec King, Montezuma.  Later on this week we are looking at persuasive speeches and phrases surrounding various Aztec scenarios.

Numeracy: We are working on perimeter and area for this week and this may lead into next week too.  We have started on perimeter today and this has included compound shapes too.  The boys have also looked at a variety of real life perimeter problems too which involve working out the length of sides when the perimeter is given.  Later on this week we will be working on area of rectangles and squares before moving onto triangles and shapes that combine all three.
