Bishop Stortford College science trip

We travelled by coach to the college, when we arrived we were told to not to talk until we got to the science department because the students were taking exams. We then arrived in the science department, hung our Blazers up and put our lunch bags down. A lady explained all the rules and told us not to mess about.

They split the class into two, and then we had to do as many activities as we could.  The first experiment I did was a lager version of a a toy that I use have at home where there are 5 steel balls and when you swing one ball at one end it hits the balls and then bounces the ball at the other end. They had huge one with bowling balls!

Then was also this big bowl full of water, I had to wet my hands and then rub the handles on the bowl to make the water jump.

At the end we had our lunch and then got on the coach back to school. I had lots of fun at the college and recommend other schools do this on their school trip.

A Review Of The  Science Trip by Peter

The science trip we went to was really interesting! The college we went was called Bishop Stortford and it went up to 16. We got into a long room and it was packed full of things that I never even knew was real! Then we got told to investigate all the objects for 1 hour. After we look we have to do a small test including all the objects in the room.

It was so crazy that they even had their own Tardis. When you got inside it there were loads of mirrors. Everywhere I looked there were LOADS of me.

My favourite object was one of the illusions. The illusion was just a grid and some white dots on each corner and when you first look at the dots they are black! Quickly they go back to white. You cant look at a dot and wait for it to turn black because only at first look its black.

Another object that was actually quiet creepy was special paper with holes in. The task said next to it: press the button and then look at it right in the middle for 15 seconds. Then look at the palm of your hand. When I looked at it for 15 seconds I stopped then looked at my hand. I couldn’t believe what I was seeing! I saw the palm of my hand spinning round and round. I was bursting to ask a truck full of questions but then I had to do the test. The test was quite easy because you had all the answers around you. After the test we all had lunch.

Overall I really enjoyed the trip and I would love to go back again

  1. On Wednesday our class went on a trip to the Science Action Centre at Bishop’s Stortford College. So when we arrived we sat down on the carpet and we were told that were going to do activities on our own. There was computer games, boulders, TV’s, water timers e. t. c. then she called us in and she told us to do a sheet. It was a work sheet to do with the objects, when we finished this we stopped for lunch.
We all walked back to the Goldenly bus and made our way back to LHS.
It was an interesting day and I learnt that science can be fun to learn.!!

  2. We had a trip to the action science center and there where lots of experiments and investigations to try, even a TV! We had to fill in a sheet in the second half but that did not take long.

  3. On Wednesday 3rd February 2016 we went to the Science Action Centre in Bishops Stortford. Once we arrived we were shown lots of different displays with practical science experiments! My favourite science object was one where you look at an optical illusion. It appears to be spinning but it isn’t. My hands appeared to move as well which was really freaky!
My second favourite object was the electricity ball. If you touched it, it would give you a tiny electric shock which tingled.
We have been learning about Space at school and this trip helped a huge amount furthering our knowledge. We learned about how far the planets are away from the sun, and Neptune is the furthest.
Overall I thoroughly enjoyed the trip and am much more interested in science now. I would like to go again and take my little brother.

  4. On Wednesday we went to Bishop Stortford College for our science trip. We did lots of activities, and these were my favourites.

One thing I did was drop a pellet down a metal tube. It didn’t touch the sides and looked like it hovered down. The reason it did that was because the outside of the pellet was plastic, and inside it there was a magnet.

Another thing I liked was a plasma ball, which is a glass ball filled with gases and a source of electricity. When the electricity is turned on, it charges up the particles in the gas. When I touched the glass, little lines like coloured lightning came out from the middle and reached to where my hand was. This is because the body acts as a conductor for the electricity. It was very pretty and cool to look at.

There was also a device that asked us 24 questions to try to figure out what we were thinking of. It was clever but it got confused. We were thinking of a rugby ball, but it thought we were thinking of a loaf of bread!

Finally, I liked looking at a Mind Warp poster. It had lots of joined up coloured circles on it and you had to stare at it for a while and see what happened. After a while, the circles seemed to swirl around. It was just an illusion caused by the way the picture was drawn, which confused the mind.

It was a fun trip and I thought the activities were interesting.

  5. On Wednesday at 8.45am our class went on a science trip. It was a half hour drive on the bus…. We were there at the extraordinary science building inside was really cool.

    My favourites were:

    The Electric Ball
This was so interesting every time you put your finger onto the ball, the electric current would follow your finger when you moved it. I don’t know what made this happen.

    The See Through Tap
This see through tap was very mysterious because the water looked as if it was flowing downwards in mid air but actually it was water flowing up and down in a plastic clear tube. It was amazing and it took me a while to work this out.

    The Reflections
There was a number of mirrors that reflected my image on to other mirrors that were there. This made it look as if there were ten of me standing there. I was with Aarav and William so 30 of us were there at one point.

We ate our packed lunch there to which had to be as recyclable as possible. I took mine in a reusable box It was my best trip ever.

  6. The year 4 science trip we went on last week was fascinating and also very fun. We started with us looking around and kind of playing with the science equipment like the mirrors which made you either very tall or very short which was quite funny as we looked very small on one of the mirrors. Then we did a worksheet all about the different things on the tables which was quite easy and most of us finished early which meant we had extra time to play around with the equipment. After that we had lunch and got back on the bus to get back to school.

  8. After a long trip to Bishop Stortford, we made it. I could not believe how big the college was. When we went to see the Action Centre, the outside was a caravan and I thought this was going to be boring. I did not imagine it being as exciting and amazing as it was. As soon as we stepped inside the caravan, there was TV showing you about space. There was an interactive space display that you could turn planets on and off. There was also a Tardis which was basically a box with mirrors in. I could see hundreds of me. I also saw a magic tap that looked like it was floating but really it was a tube with a tap at the end. The water goes through the tube and makes the tap look like its floating. I found the floating ball interesting because if you pushed the ball away from the air, you had to restart the machine again.

My personal favourite machine was the gravity machine because when you pushed the magnet down it made the machine look like it was hovering in the air, but it wasn’t.

After a long, fun trip we headed back to Lochinver for the rest of the school day.

  9. On Wednesday we had a school trip. We went to the Science Action Centre. When we got there we sat down and the centre’s teacher explained what to do. We explored the centre and there was lots of science equipment.

One of the experiments involved water in a bowl. When you shook the handles, water erupted because of vibrations. Another one of the experiments was to look at a hypnotising ring that you looked at for fifteen seconds without blinking. After looking at it for fifteen seconds you looked at your palm and it seemed to spin the opposite way. It was creepy.

Then we sat down and were given a sheet of paper that that had the letters from a to m on it. We had to look for the letters on the wall. When we saw a letter we did the activity stated on that letter and wrote how we did activity and what the results.

When we finished we got to explore a bit more. Then we had lunch. After we went back to school. I really enjoyed the day. My favourite bit was exploring.

  10. Science Action Centre
On Wednesday 3rd February I went to a science Action centre in Oxford inside a secondary school. It took half an hour to get there. When I got there we were told the rules.
First I played with a plasma ball which is made of glass filled with various noble gases like neon, argon, xenon and krypton. These gases are driven by electricity. Sometimes there’s too much gas in the ball and it shoots off and explodes when it hits an object!
Then I played noughts and crosses with a type of red glass that lets you see your position and your opponent’s position.
The one I like the best is the plasma ball.

  11. On Thursday I went on a school trip to the science action centre. We went in a small coach to travel there. On the way there I sat next to Luca. When we got there we were told to explore all the activities there. My favourite activity was this dentist one. There was a fake set of teeth, a fake giant tooth brush and a fake floss joint to a mirror. I spent nearly all my time with this activity. It was really, marvellously fun. After are big explore we were given a test sheet. It was about some of the activities there. I tried to finish mine as soon as possible so I could get back to the tooth activity, but I answered the questions carefully. As soon as I had finished my sheet I went straight back to the tooth activity. At times Mateo and Aarav came to play with me. We had lots of fun together. After some time, we had lunch. I ate 2 brioches, a cheesestring, a banana, and for a drink water that Leo made into juice. Then when everyone was finished we went back to school.
