This week…

English:

We are using the story of the Gunpowder Plot as a stimulus to mapping out stories as well as writing diaries empathising with a character.  We are looking at punctuating speech in grammar and sentence lessons and our spelling for this week focus on the suffix ‘ful’.

Maths:

We are looking at the properties of 2D shape this week.  It is a particularly challenging unit as there is a vast amount of vocabulary to retain and understand.

This week…

Maths: Following a successful week on addition, we are moving on to looking at subtraction this week.  We will begin with looking at finding the difference using ‘counting on’ as an effective method.  We will then move on to looking at formal written methods of subtraction  and then using this to solve some problems.

DON’T FORGET ABOUT OUR TRIP TO HATFIELD HOUSE ON TUESDAY!

English:

Last week we celebrated World Poetry Day and we therefore postponed our descriptive work on Tudor London which we will be completing this week (using the homework from last week).  Our grammar focus will be identifying the subject, object and verb in a sentence and also looking at clauses and subordinate clauses.  Our spelling focus for this week will be the first two rules of plurals.
