This week…

Maths: My maths set are quickly recapping the rules for ordering numbers (including decimals).  This includes using  both < and > symbols as well as finding out which number lies half way in between 2 numbers.  We will then be looking at negative numbers in the context of temperature and money and this will include number sequences in the negative numbers as well as reading scales.

English: We are continuing our work on The Devil and his Boy and this week we are looking at settings.  The boys will be using their research homework on Tudor London to describe the setting.  Our SPAG focus continues to be homophones this week so the boys will receive more homophones to learn in spellings.

We are sending home brand new Schofield and Sims books today for homework and the boys have been asked to complete the first comprehension (7 questions) and then test one in the English Skills (2) book.  This is not something that has to be completed daily – it is just for tonight’s homework.

This week…

Maths: My maths group are looking at multiplying and dividing by 10 and 100 this week.  This will include decimal numbers.

English: We are looking at effective character descriptions this week which links in with our work on nouns, adjectives, verbs and adverbs from last week.  SPAG work will focus on homophones this week.  Click on the link below for some games to help learn your homophones.

Some of the boys were keen to explore a link that I used in my science lesson today to support our work on the human skeleton.  Here is the link:

Welcome Back!

Welcome to the start of Year 4!  The Blog is a great way for pupils to share any of their learning too.  If you would like me to post anything to the Blog then just email me a copy of whatever it is (but remember to only write your first name on your work).  In addition to the Blog, our Independent Learning Wall is in the Year 4 corridor and we welcome any new work.

English: This week we will be starting work on our class reader.  The boys will need to have their copy of ‘The Devil and his Boy’ in school daily.  We will be writing diary entries this week as Tom.  In grammar, the boys will be looking at identifying nouns, verbs, adjectives and adverbs as well as the use of capitals.  We will be handing out spellings on Wednesday and the boys will have one week to learn them.

Maths:  My maths set are looking at place value this week.  This includes reading and writing numbers up to 1,000,000 and knowing the value of each digit.  Some boys will also be looking at decimal numbers too.  Below is a link to a game that the boys can use to test their understanding:
