House drama

Well done to all 3 houses for their fantastic performances today.  It was inspiring seeing so many year 4 students on stage performing monologues and being part of the improvisation tasks.  All boys performed with such confidence and creativity.  A huge congratulations to Bayley for winning the competition!

Holiday homework

  1. Revise all of the spelling rules from this term.
  2. Read our new class reader ‘The Indian in the Cupboard’ (boys can follow an audio book or share read with an adult if this helps).
  3. Independent learning (something for the wall in the corridor).  One idea would be to create an Egyptian Sarcophagus for the orange that is being mummified!
  4. Keep learning multiplications and divisions: http://www.topmarks.co.uk/maths-games/7-11-years/multiplication-and-division  http://www.mathplayground.com/multiplication_division_games.html

Weekend homework

The boys have been asked to write a newspaper article (type or write) on one aspect of the class reader.  In class we came up with the following areas that would be good to write an article about:

  • Corky’s death
  • Crocodile missing
  • Krindlekrax rumours
  • Rain in Lizard Street
  • Elvis on glass breaking rampage
  • St Georges’ school play
  • Mystery solved of Elvis
  • Crocodile stolen from zoo

The boys have been analysing newspapers in class and the following PowerPoint explains what features are needed in their own articles.  newspapers day 1

This week…

Literacy: We are looking at journalistic writing this week and using the ending of Krindlekrax as a stimulus for the boys writing their own news paper article.

Maths:  We are working on fractions of amounts this week and fractions word problems.  Any extra multiplication and division work will greatly support this topic!

Don’t forget this Friday is BOUNCE day!

This week…

Maths: We are revising all 4 operations and I am looking at applying knowledge to a range of problems in random orders.  We will be revising and looking at the sills needed to answer the questions and for those who require it, we will go over the written methods for the operations.

English: This week we are keeping it very practical.  The boys are going to be working as a class to recreate Lizard Street from our class reader.  They will need to use their texts to justify the decisions about why they have made a house/building in a specific way.
