This week…

English: This week is a short week but we are cramming in a lot!  Today we looked at how to create an official mind map and then we used this to explore the emotions of both Danny and his father in chapter 10.  The boys were using their knowledge of adjectives from last week and started to choose a range of synonyms to support these feelings with the intention of expanding their vocabulary.  Later in the week we will be using this chapter to write play scripts.

Maths:  We will be continuing our work on 2D shape this week and expending on the vast vocabulary that is associated with this topic.  As the week progresses we will also be looking at parallel and perpendicular lines.

This week…

Maths:  We started the week with a quick recap on rounding numbers to 10, 100, 1000 and this can now be extended to rounding decimals.  We will continue the week with a new topic which will be 2D shapes.  There is a lot of language associated with 2D shape and the boys will be learning the shape names and also their properties.

English:  Grammar this week looks at recognising adjectives and nouns in a sentence.  The boys are confident to explain what both adjectives and nouns are but now need the practice to identify them.  We will also be looking at selecting adjectives to suit the purpose and audience and the boys will be doing some extended writing all about their own childhood experiences which links in to Danny Champion of the World.
