This week…

WELCOME BACK!

Maths: This week we are looking at rotational symmetry in letters, signs and then in 2D shapes.  We will also be revising 2 shapes in general.

English: We are looking at writing our creative pieces for the Haileybury competition for the majority of the week which links in well with our previous work on adjectives, nouns, verbs and adverbs.

Half term homework

Have a really relaxing break and lets come back to school all fit and healthy!  Here is your half term homework in addition to some reading:

Homework:

  1. Times tables and divisions – learn up to at least 12×12
  2. Mathletics
  3. Research into crocodiles.  Bring in some information and small pictures
  4. Independent learning

Something to try in half term…

You will need to get permission from your parents, but I’m sure some of you can try this at home.

If you don’t have any cloves you could try other items such as:

  • dry herbs
  • herbal tea
  • potpourri

EXTENSION:  Are there any other fruits that will work too?

If you manage to try this you could bring in your examples or take a picture and sent them to my e-mail address.

This week…

Maths:  My group are continuing their work on symmetry, reflection and this week we are extending to rotational symmetry too.  The boys will explore the following rule:

‘A regular shape has the same amount of lines of symmetry as it does sides.’

English: We are looking at composing a piece of writing for the Haileybury Writing Competition which has the theme ‘landscapes’.  The boys will be using the landscape picture that they have brought in as a stimulus for their work and drawing on their knowledge of adjectives, nouns, verb and adverbs which have been a focus in grammar lessons.

Weekend homework

As so many of you are off today I thought I would put the spellings and homework on the blog for you all to access.

1.  Choose an interesting landscape picture which will be the starting point for some creative writing.  Think carefully about the picture.  WHERE is it set?  WHEN is it set?  WHAT is the feeling you get from the landscape and what is happening?  Either print off the picture and bring it in on Monday or e-mail it to me for Monday.

2.  On the blog write a review of the science trip that took place yesterday.

3.  Spellings for next week: ‘i’ before ‘e’ except after ‘c’ (remember there are exceptions to this rule).

This week…

Maths:  My maths group will be looking at symmetry and reflections this week.  We will start by looking at all of the related vocabulary and then identifying if a given mirror line is actually a line of symmetry.  They will move onto identifying the lines of symmetry in various 2D shapes and then look at drawing reflections (mainly of patterns).

English:  We are starting the week with some creative writing using pictures as a stimulus.  We are continuing our work on verbs and adverbs and our spelling pattern at the end of this week will be ‘i before e’ and looking at the exceptions to the rule too.
