Continue the story…

Here is the start to a story.  Try to continue the story!

Dark clouds swirled in the sky above occasionally blocking the only light from the full moon.  Trees swayed dangerously from side to side as the hurricane tore through the land.  The man staggered awkwardly along the deserted path up towards the church with the large bag.  As he reached the wooden doors he turned and looked back down the path.

This week…

Maths:  We are looking at time and money problems this week.  Time will include analogue and digital clocks, 12 and 24 hour clocks, time problems, reading timetables, calenders and time facts.  Money will include solving word problems relating to money/decimals.  Here is a link to the questions the boys should know the answers to involving time:

Literacy:  We are looking at how to write effective book reviews for the first part of the week and then moving onto apostrophes for contraction.

This week…

English:  We are looking at the theme of courage this week which links in with the Haileybury writing competition.  The boys have been exploring the theme through our class reader and this week they will be writing a diary entry as someone who has demonstrated courage.  The boys will also have the opportunity to choose their genre of writing this week and spend time working on a piece that they would like to enter for the competition.  Any stories or poems that they boys have read that follow the theme of courage or strength would be welcome!

Maths:  This week my group are continuing fractions.  We are starting the week by finishing work on improper fractions and mixed numbers (changing between the two) and then we will be moving on to the relationship between fractions, decimals and percentages.  As it is so easy to forget the work we have already covered, we will be linking back to last weeks work and having warm ups based on various aspects of fractions.  Below are some good websites for revision:

Spellings

This week the boys went through all of their books and copied out any spellings that I had edited or corrected from this term to learn at home.  Their spellings this week are therefore personalised to each pupil and they will be able to use their yellow spelling books at home to learn their own list of spellings.

This week…

Literacy: We are looking at descriptive writing this week and exploring how antonyms can completely alter the meaning of the same piece of writing.

Numeracy:  My group will be using their knowledge on multiplication, division and factors and applying this to fractions.  We will be starting with finding equivalent fractions.  This will link into the homework which they boys only need to spend 30 minutes working on.
