Gingerbread man chapter 3 for older audience
Here is our shared writing from our literacy lesson today. We changed our play script into narrative.
Literacy: We are looking at the features of play scripts and the differences between plays and narrative work. The boys will be writing a play based on a fairy tale and also changing this fairy tale to suit an older audience. We will be revising speech marks too.
Numeracy: This week we are moving onto types of angles. They boys will be recognising, measuring and drawing angles. It’s easy to forget the key vocabulary for shape so here is a link to help with revision:

Post your examples (made up or read)
Children open their presents with excitement
Happiness fills the room
Round the cChristmas tree presents are scattered
It’s the most beautiful time of the year
Santa Clause is coming soon
Turkey sits on the table looking delicious
Music floods the air
All together once again
Snow falls silently to the ground
Literacy: We are continuing to look at fairy tales this week and using our learning from last week the boys will be writing their own but looking at alternative points of view.
Numeracy: We are looking at 2D shape this week. They will begin with looking at triangles and how to identify the different triangles from their properties. We will then move onto classifying other 2D shapes.
Thank you for the history projects – we will be looking at these in class but I can tell that a lot of effort has gone into many of the projects and I look forward to reading them.
In maths this week we have been looking at conversions. There are 1000ml in a litre. My group tried to calculate how many cups of tea I drink in a 12 week term and some even managed to convert this to pints. The results were shocking and they put me on a tea ban! I wonder if any of you could calculate how much of a drink you have in a 12 week term or perhaps even a year. Maybe you are a chocoholic-could you work out how many grams and kg of chocolate you have a week/month/year? This challenge is open to all children and I look forward to reading any results! Just leave your answer as a comment below. Have a good weekend.
Literacy: This week we are starting a new topic on fairy tales. The children will be looking at the features of fairy tales and looking at how to create a mind map to show these features. They will also be looking at alternative points of view (such as the baddie) and demonstrating knowledge through reports and posters.
Numeracy: We are continuing our work on conversions this week with my maths group. The children will be applying their knowledge of conversions to a range of sums where the units differ (e.g g + kg) and also to some word problems too. Later in the week I hope to move onto some more common metric to imperial conversions. Once again, knowledge of multiplying by 10, 100 and 1000 is essential and this still continues to be an area that confuses the boys particularly when starting with a decimal. Once again, here is the link to a useful interactive program that can help demonstrate how the digits move. A calculator can also demonstrate this effectively.

MATHS HOMEWORK: The boys all have a sheet on conversions. They should be able to apply their knowledge from last week and today to solve the conversions. Some of them may wish to draw a diagram (which I model in class) which is fine. Anyone that finishes before the 30 minutes can always visit the My Maths website for some more practise.
The boys all received a library competition entrance sheet today and were very keen to draw a fiery dragon. I spent a bit of time showing them how to draw dragons and they asked me to post the following pictures. The website below may also be enjoyed by many of the boys and they could even send me some creative writing about a picture (maybe a story or a description)
The children have their project to continue this weekend but in addition if there are any boys who have not completed their geography they have been asked to finish this. It would be helpful if they could just go back through books and make sure dates and LOs have all been underlined too!

Channel 4 have a programme on Tutankhamen on Sunday night at 8pm which may be of interest to the boys.
